Jason the Overconfident

As Jason’s parents were telling him to study for his upcoming exam, like usual Jason paid no heed and continued playing his game. His father was perturbed. He knew that Jason was just going to play his video game and watch the television. “Why did I have to have this sort of son?” Jason’s father muttered under his breath. Jason-who was very presumptuous- thought of himself as the smartest person there was. Because of this, both of his parents were nervous for his pivotal exam. “How will he even get fifty percent?”nervously said his mum. “Oh chill out,” Jason calmly said as he reached the next level of his game.

When the big day arrived, the sun was anxiously peering down upon what was about to unfold below. Sprinting, Jason just made it to the exam hall in time. He didn’t know it at the time but not studying for the exam was one of his biggest mistakes. During the test, he carelessly scribbled down answers. The test was impossible; he hadn’t even read one word of his study books that he was meant to be studying. He even tried looking at another girl’s test paper but she flipped it over. Jason had no way out of this pickle. Now at last he was starting to regret his impetuous decision to avoid studying. Fifteen minutes later, he was darting out of the exam hall like a cheetah with rocket engines strapped to it.

Ten days later when the results arrived, Jason was still bragging about how sure he was that he would get scintillating results. His dad’s hands were fumbling and sweat was pouring down his face as he slowly opened the golden envelope. As soon as his eyes scanned the page, he buried his face in his hands. There was a big, fat “F” written on the report card.” Oh chill out!”exclaimed Jason Coolly.” I’ll still be with my friends at least,” he said nonchalantly.

His dad’s mind flashed with a golden lightbulb.” Yeah well…they sort of passed so they get to go onto year seven but…since you failed you don’t,” he calmly said. He knew Jason could learn his lesson from this. As soon as Jason heard this, his face plunged deep into his hands. His face had turned pallid. “What…,” Jason croaked as he collapsed to the floor. Thump! His dad was smugly smiling with glee.”Oh chill out,” he merrily spoke. Finally- he will actually grow up, thought his dad. Jason had finally learnt his lesson.
